Passion Made Possible

Healthy Eating.

In my opinion, what we put into our bodies is the single most important component to our health.“ When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use. When diet is correct, medicine is of no need.”( Ayurvedic Proverb). Every time we consume something, we are either healing our bodies, or harming them, depending on the substance we are ingesting. Healthy, whole, natural foods have become frighteningly undervalued with the invention and construction of food-like products.
Many diseases, disorders, healthproblems( both long and short term), imbalances, and cosmetic issues stem from poor nutrition. People need to eat food with real ingredients in order for the body to properly function. Your body loves you, and is constantly trying to keep you alive. It heals broken bones, stops bleeding, and regenerates cells. Nurture your body by giving it the proper fuel so as to work at its full potential.
by Celeste Tomasulo at the forefront of my mind. Because of this, I didn’ t care what I ate. It was the first time in my life( after middle school, that is) where I just simply didn’ t care what I ate or if I would get fat for eating something, I just ate what I craved.
This let me really listen to what my body was asking for. If I wasn’ t hungry, I didn’ t eat, and that was okay. I ate when I was hungry--not bored, not anxious, not stressed, but hungry. If it was 4pm and I was craving chocolate, I ate a cookie. Because I didn’ t deprive myself or have any negative feelings towards the food I was eating, it was very easy for me to have control over portions and what I truly wanted to eat. Once I took the negativity out of eating, food didn’ t have any control over me whatsoever and acted as it’ s supposed to be— fuel for my body. I ended up losing 20lbs and became the smallest I have ever been in my life. I wasn’ t dieting! I was eating what and when my BODY wanted, not my mind.
Trust me, I know this section is one of those‘ easier-said-than-done’ parts. Everyone gets cravings for chocolaty, salty, goodness, and who’ s going to bring their own veggies to an office holiday party? The recurring theme in this book is: balance. Don’ t drive yourself crazy with deprivation or beat yourself up if you eat a cookie. Now, by no means am I saying“ diet.” No! Don’ t diet! Dieting is almost as bad an invention as fast food.( But yes, I am saying never eat fast food. Never. Just don’ t do it.) Also, stay away from anything with the words‘ diet’,‘ low-cal’,‘ non-fat’ listed on the label. These are just chemical laden products that over compensate one detrimental item for the depletion of another. Instead of counting fats and calories( which our bodies actually need!) you should really be reading ingredients. As long as your body can recognize an ingredient, it doesn’ t matter what the nutritional value reads. Just be mindful of serving sizes / portion control and listen to what your body wants.
A few years ago, I broke up with my boyfriend and had to move back in with my parents. I didn’ t know what I wanted to do with my life and had found employment at a horseback-riding center I used to work at when I was younger. I was at a point where I could do anything I wanted because I had nothing holding me back— no apartment, no boyfriend, no long-term job. I was living out of a suitcase and the majority of my belongings were in storage. Needless to say, what I was eating wasn’ t
Your body will tell you what it wants. Stop letting food dictate your happiness, and fuel it with whole foods. If your body wants something, then eat it. But make sure it’ s your body asking, and not your mind telling.
“ The thing about food is you’ re a much happier person if you eat well and treasure your meals.”
