Continued from pg 27 ACT: Best advice to remember at an audition: Your job is to NOT GET ELIMINATED!"  ACT: What advice do you give the new generation of dancers that you are training?  TERRAN: I tell my students the same thing my family told me... "make your own luck." ACT: What motivates you to continue moving forward in this industry?  TERRAN: I'm highly motivated by obstruction. I'm a mountain mover. It's what I do. So when it looks impossible, I'm all on it. Aside from that, dance is an art, and art always offers a blank canvas. The creative opportunities are endless. You gotta love it! ACT: Best advice from an industry professional/producer/director/choreographer that was given to you.  Who was it? TERRAN: In 2005, Tabitha Dumo: "Clean it up (referring to the choreography and performances) but if you loose any of the flavor trying to clean it up, leave it dirty." 2006 Brian Friedman: "Persistance.2007 Meeka Sykes: "Never burn a bridge" TERRAN: Leave it on the floor. If it's what God has in store for you, it is yours.  ACT: Any advice for aspiring dancers/performers, not in your company, who want to break into the dance industry? TERRAN: Find a happy medium between the obvious marketing essentials and what makes you stand out in the best light. You can never be afraid to be yourself. Don't overthink it. Poise is most attractive to the major stake holders. Identify who you should be impressing. Being loved by all is illogical.  ACT: Something interesting that our readers would love to know about you: TERRAN: I really want like 3 more children. I've put so much into other’s children; I want my own little village. Therefore, I won't be left with just the memories of other’s in my old age.  ACT: Anything else you would like to share? TERRAN: Be strong enough to love. No matter what. Anyone can be tasteless. That's easy. The true test of your strength is kindness and optimism. ACT: How do you balance your career and family life with such a full schedule? TERRAN: I'm super blessed to have an enormously supportive husband and a daughter that dances in my company. I don’t have to balance. They are in sync with my every step.  ACT: How can our readers follow you and Subroy? www.subroystudios.com ACT: Describe a typical day/week with SubRoy Studios, with the Memphis Grizzlies? TERRAN: OMG! Are you ready? Sundays are Grizzlies rehearsals. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday are Studio training classes. Now randomly fit in games with tech rehearsals which usually start an hour after school lets out, community performances and emergency rehearsals. Whew!!! But I love every minute of it.  Instagram: @subroystudios901 @terrannoir YouTube: SubRoy Studios and Terran Noir  I speak first hand from witnessing the magic of Terran Noir and SubRoy. TERRAN: I'll stay current so we can go ahead and make this happen, lol. One show for one artist...? MISSY ELLIOTT! Dancers that she hires would absolutely smash my choreo! OMG!!!     Words of Wisdom From Those Who Know Best That audition didn't go your way? Having a hard time staying motivated? Frustrating week? Frustrating month? Frustrating year? Acting is a profession that will test you endlessly—but we know you are tough enough to prevail. When you think you've hit bottom, or just need a quick line of motivation, here are a couple inspirational quotes from famous folks, to redirect your thoughts back to your goals: “I’ve always approached things with hunger and just enough fear. Plenty of confidence, you know, but just enough fear to work extra hard. Paralyzing fear does nothing, but the kind of fear that makes you nervous enough to really be aware and focused? I like that kind of fear.” —Queen Latifah “We think too much and feel too little.” —Charlie Chaplin ActDanceModelSing.com Page 28
