As Jon Laureles— founder and fearless leader here at
Acoustic Drive— prepared for his meeting with Cody
Jinks, there was some anxiety, maybe even some trepidation. Interviews are always a little stressful; there’s a pressure to ask something unique, to reach beneath the surface level basics and reveal who the interviewee is beyond
a factsheet list of answers. Especially when dealing with
an artist that you respect, the effort to produce something
out of a tired format which does justice to their artistry…
well, it can be a little daunting. But then Jon remembered
just exactly who it was he was going to interview.
Whether it’s “Somewhere in the Middle” or “Hippies and
Cowboys”, Cody Jinks continues to produce what critics
love to call “real country”. His latest album Adobe
Sessions is already gathering accolades from those in the
know. However, the songs can only be as insightful as the
man who creates them. Interviewing Cody Jinks could
never be a factsheet list of answers, because for Cody
insight and introspection are what it’s all about.
From the only kid in his high school with a demo to
the man attracting crowds of admirers, Cody’s career in
music has already been prolific, but he is only just getting
started. As he has matured in life, he has matured as a
songwriter. “I’m 34,” he observes. “If I was a professional
athlete I was would be an old man.” Even though he has
been writing songs for much of his life, he feels like it has
been in the last few that he has finally hit his stride.
Cody calls some of his earlier successes “luck.” Referring
specifically to fan favorite “Somewhere in the Middle”,
Cody says: “Treating saints and sinners right is a good
thing to do all the time…
