Photo by: Triple S Photography As Jon Laureles— founder and fearless leader here at Acoustic Drive— prepared for his meeting with Cody Jinks, there was some anxiety, maybe even some trepidation. Interviews are always a little stressful; there’s a pressure to ask something unique, to reach beneath the surface level basics and reveal who the interviewee is beyond a factsheet list of answers. Especially when dealing with an artist that you respect, the effort to produce something out of a tired format which does justice to their artistry… well, it can be a little daunting. But then Jon remembered just exactly who it was he was going to interview. Whether it’s “Somewhere in the Middle” or “Hippies and Cowboys”, Cody Jinks continues to produce what critics love to call “real country”. His latest album Adobe Sessions is already gathering accolades from those in the know. However, the songs can only be as insightful as the man who creates them. Interviewing Cody Jinks could never be a factsheet list of answers, because for Cody insight and introspection are what it’s all about. From the only kid in his high school with a demo to the man attracting crowds of admirers, Cody’s career in music has already been prolific, but he is only just getting started. As he has matured in life, he has matured as a songwriter. “I’m 34,” he observes. “If I was a professional athlete I was would be an old man.” Even though he has been writing songs for much of his life, he feels like it has been in the last few that he has finally hit his stride. Cody calls some of his earlier successes “luck.” Referring specifically to fan favorite “Somewhere in the Middle”, Cody says: “Treating saints and sinners right is a good thing to do all the time… Acoustic Drive | 43
