ACOMS Review - Spring 2018 | Page 8

Member Spotlight: Faisal Quereshy, MD, DDS, FACS What were some of the challenges you faced along your educational or career journey? I don’t have these same challenges now, but early on, when I first came on the faculty of Case Western Reserve with cosmetics training, the early challenges were trying to be accepted while doing something that was beyond the scope of the traditional OMS training program. I needed to establish myself within the hospital and the community. Eighteen years later, I’m still running the program and training the residents. The residents have no problem establishing themselves throughout the country. Cosmetics is being accepted as a specialty and is expanding the OMS scope of practice. What advice do you have for dental students who are just embarking on their careers? For anybody: whatever you do, be passionate about it. Do it for good reasons and not for the monetary gain. I like the saying, “if you love what you do, you never feel like you’ve worked a day in your life.” And it’s true, because the work comes from the heart. For dental students, we would love for you to choose OMS, because it’s all-encompassing. It’s a hybrid of dentistry and medicine. We get to care for patients in many different ways. But whatever you decide to choose, do it with sincerity and good things will come. On-Demand
