ACOMS Review - November 2016 | Page 6

Stay current on your surgical knowledge and earn CDE credit with the Clinical Review—a monthly educational offering from ACOMS. This month’s Clinical Review: Anesthetic Considerations in the Acutely Injured Patient. Effective management of the acutely traumatized patient requires cooperation and communication between a team of physicians. The initial survey of the patient should occur immediately on arrival to the health care facility and must assess if the patient is in an imminent life-threatening condition. A systematic approach should be followed. This activity addresses the importance of the airway in maxillofacial trauma, airway examination and management, physical examination, anesthetic strategies, basic principles of management, and postoperative airway support.
