A QUICK GLIMPSE THROUGH THE
PAST YEAR

club,
University
of
Peradeniya was founded in 2014
with the objectives of improving
the technical skills of the undergraduates of
Faculty of Engineering, building a platform
to share engineering knowledge by doing
multi-disciplinary projects and providing
technical and computer engineering support
to the events organized by the Department of
Computer Engineering and other societies
of the university. Hackers’ club consists
of members from all the batches of the
faculty, who are willing to explore computer
engineering and technical world regardless
of their department. As one of the most
active clubs within the faculty, Hackers’
club organises many events annually in
order to improve the competencies and
skills within undergraduates of Faculty of
Engineering to meet with requirements
of industrial world with the guidance
of the academic staff members. Weekly
competitive
programming
sessions,
Knowledge transfer sessions on OOP/Linux/
Javascript/Git, Mock interview sessions for
3rd year undergraduates were organized
frequently to share the knowledge.
Conducting workshops and sessions for
Undergraduates to train for local and
international competitions and events such
as GSoC, IEEEXtreme, ACES Coders etc were
done by the club with the help of previous
participants and academic staff. Apart from
that ACES Hackathon, Pre idea pitching
sessions for ACES hackathon, ACES coders,
ACES pre-coders are events which were
organized by ACES in collaboration with
Hackers’ club.
WarZone V2.0, a Call of Duty Gaming competition organized by the ACES was held for
the second time on the 9th of November 2018
at the Department of Computer Engineering
premises. Not only the ACES members of the
Faculty of Engineering but also the current first-
year undergraduates also got the opportunity
to compete in this WarZone. Apart from the
main gaming event, there were separate robotic
exhibition sections, Racing Game events, and
many other recreational events. Team COD4LIFE
became champions of the ACES WarZone version
2.0 and Team Cloud9 became runners-up in the
competition.
The Annual General Meeting of Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES)
was held on 31st of January 2019 at faculty premises. New committee members were
appointed for ACES year 2019/2020.
The Department of Computer Engineering
welcomed the fresh batch of E16 to the
department on the 21st of June 2019. The
head of the department, Dr. Kamalanath
Samarakoon warmly welcomed the new batch
selected to the department based on their
academic performance on the previous year
and their preferences. The welcome night was
also filled with fun events and games where
all the lecturers, instructors, seniors and the
freshly admitted batch got to experience a
wonderful time.
