There were more fields and green areas. People used to have a swim in Corso
due Mari. The country was located in the New town , because there were not blocks of
flats. Air was not polluted.
In 1965 was opened the ILVA steel plant company, which was named Italsider for
part of its existence. At the time of the construction of the plant, Italsider
was a state-controlled company.
The industrial settlement Ilva has been important for employment but it has
also been a great mistake because now the town is highly polluted.
