Join members of the Diversity & Member Inclusion Committee as they host this fun , fast-paced women ’ s networking session . Connect with old friends , make new contacts , and learn a thing or two . Women from all stages of their career are encouraged to attend these first of two sessions in the women ’ s program . We also encourage all women to attend the Women Influencers in Water panel discussion with live Q & A held Wednesday , June 16 from 10:00 a . m . – noon .
Impacts of Climate Change on Water Resources Planning ( VS1 _ 05 )
Track : Sustainable Water Resources | 10:30 – 11:15 a . m .
In this session , presenters will identify unique challenges and creative approaches associated with water resources planning and climate change . Attendees will gain a better understanding of water resources tools and strategies for addressing complex issues in the areas of drought , climate change , water demands , and finances .
Federal Water Program Priorities ( VS1 _ 09 )
Track : Water Utility Management and Leadership | 10:30 – 11:15 a . m .
Speakers will discuss the issues that are at the top of national policy makers ’ agendas . With this year ’ s change in Administration , water utilities will need to be mindful of changes of direction in federal environment policy , as well as , understand the status and direction of continuing U . S . Environmental Protection Agency regulation and guidance development . And perhaps most importantly learn how the USEPA is responding to public concern about topics such as affordability , per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances , lead , and water quantity .
Cost-Effective Pipe Retrofits for Smaller Systems ( VS1 _ 10 )
Track : 21st Century Infrastructure | 10:30 – 11:15 a . m .
Smaller utilities cannot always afford to do what the larger utilities can , but the problems are much the same . Aging infrastructure requires all systems to know the ins and outs of pipe replacement for their systems . This session examines pipe contamination in older distribution systems and ideas for cost-effective pipe retrofit solutions .
Managing Lead in Drinking Water ( VS1 _ 11 )
Track : Water Quality : Challenges and Research | 10:30 – 11:15 a . m .
This session will provide information related to the development of a lead risk and mitigation model , predicting water lead levels after a lead reduction strategy , and identifying lead sources using isotopes .
Cybersecurity Policy Update and Practical Solutions ( VS1 _ 12 )
Track : Utility Resilience | 10:30 – 11:15 a . m .
This session will address recent incidents in the water sector and detail the current cybersecurity policy actions in congress and federal agencies directly influencing the water sector , including but not limited to AWIA compliance . Participants will be provided with practical solutions to assessing their cyber threat , including steps to implement controls for some of the most fundamental controls . Participants will also learn about the findings and lessons from one utility ’ s “ day without SCADA ” exercise .
