PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM Monday, June 10, 2019 MON09 Lead and Copper: Testing Evaluations and Implementing Corrosion Control 2:00–5:00 p.m. Room: Mile High Ballroom 3A Track: Managing Lead in Distribution Systems Moderator: Jeff Swertfeger Lead and copper enter drinking water primarily through plumbing materials. The regulation to control lead and copper in drinking water is known as the Lead and Copper Rule and requires systems to monitor drinking water systems. Hear from the experts on various testing evaluations for lead and copper and treatment practices for corrosion control to minimize lead in water distribution systems. 2:00 Flint’s Final CCT Steps: Establishing Parameters to Minimize Lead in Water David Cornwell, Cornwell Engineering Group, Jacob Wagner, Nancy McTigue 2:00 WRD GRIP UV/Cl2 AOP for Indirect Potable Reuse Jamal Awad, GHD, Ken Ortega, Tom Knoell, Adam Festger 2:30 Groundwater Replenishment with Recycled Water on Agricultural Lands (WRRF-16-03) Robert Morrow, Woodard & Curran, Dave Richardson, Bahman Sheikh 3:00 Operational Results and Optimization of HRSD’s 1-MGD SWIFT Research Center for Advanced Treatment and Aquifer Recharge Samantha Hogard, Virginia Tech, Tyler Nading, Stefania Hurtado, Germano Salazar-Benites, Chris Wilson, Charles Bott, Larry Schimmoller 3:30 Using Carbon-Based Potable Reuse Schemes for the Treatment of Disinfection Byproducts and Trace Organic Chemicals Stephanie Riley, Southern Nevada Water Authority, Eric Dickenson, Edgard Verdugo 2:30 Seeing is Believing: Practical Application of Lead Service 4:00 Using a Digital Twin to Enhance Control System Design and Line Scale Analysis for Optimizing Corrosion Operator Training at a 34-MGD Reuse Facility Control Treatment Kyle Hegger, Jacobs, Jason Curl, Benjamin Deavenport, Amer Roger Arnold, Hazen and Sawyer Barhoumi, Monika Smoczynski, Troy Matsuura 3:00 Creating the Perfect Mixture: Quantifying the Impacts of 4:30 High Recovery RO–Challenges to Meet Stringent Nitrogen Mixing Groundwater and Surface Water on Distribution Limits in Reservoir Augmentation Indirect Potable System Water Quality Reuse Projects John Civardi, Mott MacDonald, Maria Tortorelli, Abigail Cantor, Ufuk Erdal, AECOM, Zeynep Erdal Rich Calbi MON11 A Discussion with USDA: Resources for Small Water Systems 2:00–5:00 p.m. Extreme Couponing: Corrosion Guidance and Room: Mile High Ballroom 1E Testing Protocol Track: Small Systems Management and Operations Melanie Criswell, CDPHE WQCD, Jacqueline Rhoades Moderator: Daniel Dawson 3:30 Water Testing to Identify Unknown Service Line Material Maureen Schmelling, DC Water 4:00 4:30 Practical Use of Multiple Corrosion Control Testing Methods to Reduce Lead—A Case Study of PWSA’s Pipe Loop Type Testing John Civardi, Mott MacDonald, Kemal Niksic MON10 Indirect Potable Reuse Technologies and Projects 2:00–5:00 p.m. Room: Mile High Ballroom 3C Track: Potable Reuse Moderator: Steve Wait Potable reuse necessitates the advancement of alternative water supplies with the rigorous protection of public health. In many cases, current utility policies do not meet the need to achieve these simultaneous goals, resulting in project implementation challenges. Presenters discuss their perspectives on potable reuse policy development emphasizing the need to remain vigilant about providing safe, high quality water to consumers independent of the source. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development, Rural Utilities Service, Water and Environmental Programs (WEP) funds loans and grants for water and waste infrastructure, as well as technical assistance to rural communities. This program will help small utilities develop competitive funding applications to WEP while leveraging funding from other state and federal sources. 2:00 Making the Most of Federal Dollars: The Rural Development— SRF Connection Karen Sanchez, USDA Rural Development 2:45 Technical Assistance That Makes a Difference Noel LaRoque, USDA Rural Development 3:30 Simplifying Access to Funding Mike Luecker, USDA Rural Development 4:15 Panel Discussion Noel LaRoque, USDA Rural Development Mike Luecker, USDA Rural Development Karen Sanchez, USDA Rural Development
