The Next Generation of Water Financing: The Growth and Impacts of Innovative and Green Financing for Water Utilities and Rate Payers 3:00 – 4:30 p. m. Room: Lagoon KL Track: Financing, Rates & Affordability Moderator: George Hawkins
This session covers the expanding use of various innovative financing instruments including green bonds, century bonds and environmental impact bonds. Panelists will talk about how green bonds, century bonds, environmental impact bonds, and other innovative financing instruments affect water utility ratepayers and how these tools can help water utilities address low-income ratepayers. Additional discussion provides case studies of current day water utilities using green and innovative financing( i. e., San Francisco, Washington, D. C., Philadelphia, etc.).
Panelists: Matt Brown, DC Water Catherine Godschalk, Calvert Impact Capital Jeffrey Scruggs, Goldman Sachs

Operational Practices Improve Water Treatment 3:00 – 4:30 p. m. Room: Breakers KL Track: Operator Forum Moderator: Rebecca Hamel
Operators often find there are limited technical resources readily available to optimize operations. This session explores polymer basics including mixing strategies, opportunities for improved nitrification control, and improved performance strategies that will allow operators to extend filter run times and minimize waste production.
3:00 Optimizing Polymer Mixing and Activation: San Luis Obispo Yong Kim, UGSI Solutions, Inc.
3:30 Developing a Holistic Approach for Nitrification Control: Story of a Utility’ s Monitoring Assessment and Operational Improvements Yue Sun, Ardurra Group, Nicholas Cook, Brent Costlow

Multiple Voices of Innovation 3:00 – 4:30 p. m. Innovation Lounge— Booth # 21108 Moderator: See Mobile App
Presented by the AWWA Innovation Initiative
This facilitated panel discussion brings together key players from a variety of organizations to share about how they are working together to support innovation within the water / wastewater industry. The underlying message that this session highlights is how we collectively bring more value, come up with better ideas and open more doors by working together than by working apart. This session provides an opportunity to share both organizationally specific and collaborative programs and services with the audience.
Panelists: Cristina Ahmadpour, Isle Utilities Tom Ferguson, Imagine H2O Bill Teichmiller, EJ Water Coopertive Fidan Karimova, The Water Research Foundation Barbara Martin, American Water Works Association Phillip Ashcroft, New England Innovation Network Travis Wagner, Pure Technologies

Leveraging Mixed-Reality to Transform Engineering 4:30 – 5:00 p. m. Innovation Lounge— Booth # 21108 Presenter: Scott Aldridge, CDM Smith
Mixed-reality leverages the core efficiencies of virtual and augmented reality to pave the way for a new, engaging, and immersive way of experiencing our reality. The merging of real and virtual worlds produces new environments and visualizations where physical and digital objects coexist and interact in real time. Immersing ourselves inside our designs is the next logical step in moving 3D images off our 2D computer screens to unlock hidden insights. Using immersive mixed-reality will enable engineers, clients, and stakeholders to interact with 3D design models at-scale and in the real world and enables those involved to make more informed and effective and quicker decisions. It also makes it easy for anyone, from city officials to everyday citizens, to more easily and intuitively understand complex engineering and design infrastructure projects, and the need for related spending.

A Case Study: Cloud-Based Engineering Drawing Management for Las Vegas Valley Water District / Southern Nevada Water Authority 5:00 – 5:30 p. m. Innovation Lounge— Booth # 21108 Presenter: Roman Galikov, RedEye
RedEye is an Australian tech company providing mobile and purpose-built engineering data management solution in the Cloud for asset owners, including water utilities, and their service providers globally. Their technology provides a collaborative environment for people to access and work on the most recent engineering / electrical drawings, streamlines workflows and improves quality of markups, and reduces financial risks by mitigating project delays and inefficient business practices. Recently, RedEye completed its first project within the United States with support from WaterStart, the Las Vegas Valley Water District( LVVWD), and the Southern Nevada Water Authority( SNWA). After a successful scoping project and establishing U. S.- based operations, RedEye’ s platform has been rolled out to over 300 employees within LVVWD and SNWA. RedEye will present the results of this case study from needs analysis, project scoping, and full-scale implementation within a large scale, water management agency
