Side Effects of the California Drought and Lower
Water Use
1:30–3:00 p.m.
Room: Lagoon KL
Track: Water Resource Management & Potable Reuse
Moderator: Sue Mosberg WED44
Chloramination: Current Practices and Future
Challenges
1:30–4:30 p.m.
Room: Lagoon G
Track: Water Quality Challenges
Moderator: Scott Alpert
California’s unprecedented drought required unparalleled actions. This
session examines the impacts of the California drought response and
water conservation on water quality, utility systems, and how utilities
are looking to improve reliability and resilience through collaboration. To meet regulatory requirements, many utilities are employing
or considering chlorination. Chloramine use requires an
understanding of water chemistry, and operational control to
maintain disinfection residual and minimize DBP formation. This
session will highlight current practices and challenges with
chloramine use. Research efforts, utility case studies, and future
trends will be discussed.

Jackpot: Innovative Solutions to Water Quality
Challenges
1:30–4:30 p.m.
Room: Surf EF
Track: Water Quality Challenges
Moderator: Paul Swaim
Bench-, pilot-, and full-scale testing can supply answers an entity
needs for process and facility improvements. The long-term
benefits provide proof of concept without the expense of a full
implementation. This session explores the results of testing to
improve water quality challenges.
