Following the demonstration , participants will have an opportunity to dissect a pig eyeball .

Demonstrations will be followed by hands-on practice with ongoing reviews and feedback . The following principles will be presented : 1 . Basic extraocular muscle anatomy & action 2 . Basic horizontal ( esotropia and exotropia ) and vertical
( hypertropia and hypotropia ) strabismus 3 . The difference between a phoria and tropia and how to detect them using appropriate tests ( cover-uncover , alternate cover test etc )
4 . Using the corneal light reflex to estimate the deviation
( Hirschberg ) or measure the deviation with prisms ( Krimsky ) 5 . How to grade basic ocular motility 6 . How to properly notate strabismus measurements and motility
Basic Retinoscopy

Participants should also complete their choice of " Plus Cylinder Refraction " or " Minus Cylinder Refraction ," as a second prerequisite course . Upon registering for this learning lab , you will be registered for the prerequisite courses . Description : This hands-on session will demonstrate and teach the technique of estimating the refractive error of the human eye using the streak retinoscope , loose lenses , and schematic eyes . Instruction on recording results will be included .
