Douglas D. Koch, MD, is a globally respected leader in the field of ophthalmology, known for his pioneering work in refractive surgery and the correction of astigmatism. As the Allen, Mosbacher, and Law Chair in Ophthalmology at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Koch has spent decades advancing surgical techniques and improving patient outcomes in cataract and corneal surgery. He has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed publications, contributed to numerous textbooks, and delivered hundreds of invited lectures around the world. His research has significantly influenced how surgeons assess and manage astigmatism in cataract patients, and his work on intraocular lens( IOL) technology has led to widespread improvements in surgical precision and visual outcomes.
Throughout his career, Dr. Koch has received multiple awards and honors for his contributions to ophthalmic education and innovation. He has served as president of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery( ASCRS) and held leadership roles in several other prestigious organizations. Dr. Koch’ s Keynote Lecture will discuss the available options for addressing presbyopia with intraocular lens( IOL) surgery, describing the different methods and designs, potential pitfalls and complications, and future advances. His presentation will cover various strategies for treating presbyopia during cataract surgery, including monovision, simultaneous vision IOLs, and accommodating IOLs. He will also present case studies to illustrate these approaches in clinical practice.
