It is the last issue of 2022 . What a year it has been for the live events industry . Whether it was new events being successfully brought to life or huge landmark moments such as the Commonwealth Games or Operation London Bridge 2023 being carried out with professionalism and finesse ; there have been no shortage of highlights .
For many promoters the summer season saw record ticket sales , despite the much-discussed challenges around increased costs and impacts of supply chain strain . In this issue we look back at some of the high points , including the 66,000-capacity Boomtown Fair being successfully delivered despite blistering temperatures and last-minute cancellations by suppliers . We also look at the challenges involved in launching the Otherlands Festival and examine how the continued evolution of the London Marathon has involved celebrating and including a wider range of participants than ever . We also mark the 50th anniversary of Arena Seating ; from table tennis in Newbury to the Olympics , we explore the company ’ s many landmark moments and plans for the future .
As we move toward 2023 , Access talks to Figen Murray and key event security experts to gauge how the industry is coping with the many considerable challenges it faces . They include coping with a postpandemic deficit of experienced security staff and the need to prepare in anticipation of Protect Duty , despite the exact legislation and its timing remaining unknown . We also hear expert views on what is thought to be behind alarming audience behavioural trends seen at events around the world this year .
With everything from artist fees to infrastructure costs soaring , 2023 isn ’ t expected to be easy but with such a high level of expertise and resilience across the events industry I am sure we will have much to celebrate this time next year . I hope you enjoy this issue .
