Glastonbury
gets Serious
What: Glastonbury Festival
Where: Worthy Farm, Somerset
When: 26-30 June
Serious Stages returned to where it all began for the
company 35 years ago, supplying the world-renowned
Glastonbury Festival with a vast range of stages and site
structures for a sunny weekend at Worthy Farm.
The new look Park Stage featured a bespoke 15m
high double header engineered by Serious creating
an impressive extended frontage. This was the first
time Serious had built this configuration, enabling the
designers to create a ‘wall’ of street art pieces.
Serious also supplied engineering for the ‘welcome
pillars’ and art installations in The Park area.
Serious’ on-site team was around 60-strong during
the run in to the festival, installing major infrastructure
across the extensive site under the project management
of Simon Fursman.
The stage decking and loading bays within iconic
Pyramid Stage (shown here during Kylie’s set) were
flanked by PA and screen steel truss goalposts, while in
front of the stage were broadcast camera platforms, eight
PA delay towers, two front of houses, two spot pods and a
two assisted viewing platforms.
The Other Stage, West Holts, Park Stage were very
different looking Serious stages, again all with supporting
site structures. Stage decking was installed at a range of
indoor venues, including the John Peel Stage, Silver Hayes
and Leftfield and retail outlets such as Lulu’s cafe.
Serious also created bespoke temporary buildings for
the Tree Temple and the BBC Studio, and it was a definite
‘cheers’ to the team in Tricket’s – the highest bar on site
on Serious substructure.
