SEPTEMBER | SECTOR FOCUS
from directors and shareholders,
to project managers and
planners, CAD designers and site
crews.
She says: “Our experienced
personnel understand the
demands of the industry; help
create strong relationships
with clients on site; provide
the support and training
to employees new to the
industry and often develop
into management roles, as
opportunities arise. Experience
helps to create efficient teams on
site allowing the timely delivery
of projects.
“Recruitment and development
is a constant challenge for all
operators in the events industry
– competing against traditional
construction work. Training is
key. Safety in the work place and
on site is paramount. Neptunus
use regular training in all
types of skills to reiterate safe
working practises. Although
the temporary structure
industry has no bespoke training
programme, we have developed
our own in-house scheme taking
the best elements from other
industries, particularly the
construction sector. This allows
42
us to provide solid H&S training.
“We’re a company that
encourages growth from within
the business, and provide great
opportunities in all departments
for the right employees to
progress. Of course, we also
employ new blood and offer ’on-
the-job’ training to new members
of staff. It is important to have
the right mix of skills for us to
continue to progress and be at
the forefront of innovation in our
industry.
“Our employees are
expected to be dedicated and
committed, and to work hours
that are necessary to fulfil our
commitments on time. Wherever
possible we try to avoid weekend
working during build and clear
schedules to ensure the work–life
balance, but inevitably in this
industry it is not always possible.
Long-standing employees form
the backbone of the company and
are complimented by fresh eyes
from our newer recruits.”
