It ’ s been an event season like no other , from a state of pandemic-enforced paralysis to all systems go staging a delayed and condensed festival run , alongside a string of elite sporting action including the Euro 2020 tournament , Wimbledon Championships , London Marathon and the BMW PGA Championship .
2021 will not be forgotten for the way in which the UK events industry rose phoenix-like from the ashes to entertain millions with outstanding professionalism and remarkable resilience in overcoming some truly hair-raising supply chain obstacles .
To celebrate the end of a season like no other , Access has teamed up with Festival Insights and Festival Awards , We Are The Fair and the Association of Independent Festivals to host the Festival Wrap Party .
Taking place on 11 November at Village Underground in London ’ s Shoreditch , the party will provide an opportunity to celebrate the tenacity and determination of everyone involved in this year ’ s season . Tickets are priced £ 15 and all excess funds will be donated to Stagehand .
As we prepare for the year ahead , there are plenty of reasons for optimism , not least the fact it ’ s shaping up to be a record year for the number of events .
On p40 , Rob da Bank discusses launching Camp Bestival in Shropshire next year , London Marathon race director Hugh Brasher is looking to the future by partnering with technology providers to evolve the hybrid aspect of the event ( p37 ), and in the cover feature ( p18 ) we look at how Wales is set to become an even more attractive events destination with the arrival of new venues . In the meantime , we have Christmas to look forward to and festive events promoters are back with renewed vigour ( p44 ).
The Government ’ s reinsurance scheme may not be the safety net our sector has been crying out for ( p30 ), and there remain many supply chain issues , as outlined by Liz Madden ( p13 ), but nothing detracts from the remarkable achievement of our sector this year .
