Facing the future Privacy concerns remain a barrier to the widespread implementation of facial recognition software at live events , but while organisers of festivals including Shambala , Coachella and Electric Forest have resisted its use , many ticketing professions are less reluctant .
On April 20 , venue operator ASM Global launched facial recognition ticketing and point of sale at San Diego ’ s Penchanga Arena . The technology was developed by PopID .
Bautista says , “ The tech is already available , I believe it is being used in some venues for event security . I don ’ t think it will be too long until we start to see it in most major venues , but for it to be available for most events it will be a longer wait and will require a combined effort with local authorities .”

One palm recognition software to its mobile ticketing service . The system enables ticket holders to choose to either scan their digital ticket or to link their palm with Amazon One to AXS ’ Mobile ID technology by enrolling at a dedicated station just outside a venue .
Newman says the software is still in its early stages and AXS may look to push it out on a wider basis in the next year or so . A beta version is currently being tested at the Mission Ballroom venue in Denver , Colorado .
“ We did look at facial technology and we just think that there are still a few too many barriers in the way and it ’ s not going to be adopted at scale anytime soon ,” he says . “ The face recognition is not quite good enough yet and it ’ s just not speedy enough . We feel palm technology has less ethical barriers around it .”
Building with blockchain The rise of blockchain has seen ticket service operators explore the technology as a means of tackling touts , increasing sustainability and becoming more data-led .

( TFF ) recently announced that its venues Utilita Arena Birmingham and Resorts World Arena will use a blockchain technology , as part of a newly formed strategic partnership with technology-led provider SecuTix .
While the adoption of the technology is gathering pace in the sector , operators including AXS and Ticketpass have explored Blockchain ’ s potential but are yet to be convinced of a need for its imminent use .
Newman says blockchain offers advantages across security , stability , and speed of sales , but he still has reservations : “ If there ’ s a load on one of them , you have vulnerability around the rest . So we don ’ t think that blockchain is a silver bullet to do anything . It ticks some of the boxes , but not all the boxes that we need .”
Similarly , Hossenally suggests that although it has its advantages , blockchain is a “ bandwagon ” that people are jumping on , as a lot of what you can do with blockchain can also be done without it .
With society impacted from rising taxes and the cost of everything from heating to food , Hossenally says customers are now more costconscious and that 54 % of Event Genius ’ revenue comes via staggered ticket payment plans .
He says , “ We had a big bounce back from the pandemic , but that wave has now slowed down quite a lot because of the cost of living has increased . We ’ re seeing a lot slower and more delayed buying patterns than before .”
