Motoring through the unexpected
Motorsport with Attitude (MWA) burst onto the racing scene for the first time
in February last year at the East of England Arena and Events Centre, creating
something of a splash amongst the grass-roots racing community in the UK
I
n 2019 the show’s organiser, Dave
Rennie - a lifelong racing fan,
correspondent and enthusiast - took
it upon himself to fill what he saw as a gap
in the market created by other motorsport
events that were, in his view, drifting away
from ‘minority’ motorsports.
Beginning with the venue, he knew
it had to be reasonably central to the
UK, it needed to have, as a minimum, a
trackway and grandstand of some kind,
indoor exhibition space, plenty of outdoor
event space, room for camping, and the
capacity to accommodate a growing event.
He settled on The East of England Arena
because it ticked all the boxes, and it has a
long pedigree of motoring and motorsports
events.
Following the 2019 event, which attracted
over 9,000 visitors, Rennie made two
significant changes for MWA 2020. The first
was to stage the event earlier in the year
to avoid a clash with Daytona Speedweeks
in the USA, and the second was to boost
the live entertainment quotient with more
quality live bands and acts.
“A lot of people brought their families
last year, and the feedback from the show
suggested we could afford to make a lot
more of the live entertainment,” said
