Organiser of the festival Love
Saves The Day, Bristol: Managing director, Brixton BID: Founder of Parklife Festival
and night-time economy
adviser to the mayor of Greater
Manchester: Mayor of Greater Manchester:
“We’ll probably see new kinds of
events created to serve markets
that aren’t being catered for:
at the moment big technology
companies, for instance, don’t
quite know how to showcase
themselves. But if independents
can say to widget-makers ‘We’ll
get you a Bjork’, the proposition
starts to look interesting.
“Brixton is already a dynamic
environment for business and
gains an undoubted boost from
the events it holds. We want
more. Indeed, over the longer
term, events can give our local
young people an opportunity to
work in what is a vibrant sector,
and to gain an apprenticeship
in it.”
“Parklife is now the largest
metropolitan festival in the UK,
attracting 80,000 people a day
over the first weekend in June.
Outside of the festival proper, it
brings more than £10m into the
local economy.”
“Events happen both day
and night and we know that
the night-time economy is
the fifth largest industry in
the UK. It’s vital to Greater
Manchester’s economy. That is
why I appointed a night-time
economy adviser for Greater
Manchester.”
