I thought “That’s strange; he should be shifting stuff”. Actually he was busy filling in a near miss H&S report on their internal H&S web app which got me thinking about an area that is not really talked about – health and safety software. I got researching on Google and found that there are quite a few health and safety management systems available that comply with the OHSAS18001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System. Capterra – the software review site – has listed some of the best based on user reviews. At the top of the UK list is Effective Software with 5 stars. The cloud based platform offers various modules to address various H&S areas including the sharing of compliance data, tasks and actions needed by events companies when onsite. The system allows shared updates and H&S reports. But there are also some quite quirky apps available in the Apple Store and on Google Play. My favourite is Near Miss, created by Finish company Observis.fi. It’s native IOS and Android app performs all sorts of the requisite H&S tasks and stores and shares reports in real-time. If you are worried about the working in loud spaces and want to know if you need mufflers, download Decibel Meter. With extended exposure, noises that reach a level of 85 decibels can cause permanent damage to the inner ear. Or of you are in event catering and want to test yourself on food preparation and allergies check out Food Allergy Safety Exam Prep – a gamified tutorial app that prepares caterers for the US National Restaurant Associations food safety exam.
