JUNE | SECTOR FOCUS
THINK PINK
Losberger De Boer has completed a spate of projects , including a 9,500sqm pink tent for # MoonWalkLondon .
Sales director - events John Cochrane says : “ The market in on a very flat line . With every new event another established one will drop off . Some events close down , become smaller , or move to a permanent venue . LDB is very lucky to have the strength in depth that an international company can provide .
“ We also have such a diverse product range , which also helps win new business in many different sectors , from exhibition structures such as those built at The Farnborough International Air Show and Decorex , to the magnificent Pink Galaxy built recently on Clapham Common .”
CREATIVE ADVANTAGE
Vantage ’ s Event Structures MD Matt Bowler set up his first business , Buckinghamshire Scaffolding Specialists in 2002 , providing scaffolding , solely for residential and commercial properties . In 2007 , with a recession hampering the sector , Bowler steered towards the events market .
By 2011 , BSS had won the tender to provide forty media structures for the press , stationed around Buckingham Palace and along The Mall for William and Kate ’ s wedding . A week later they were commissioned to build the press studio in the gardens of Buckingham Palace , for Barak Obama ’ s state visit .
Another key moment for Matt was recreating the infamous Nation nightclub at Creamfields in 2017 . Weeks of research ensured the festival nightclub was built to the exact dimensions of the original in Liverpool including the original glitter ball and the sourcing of the exact shade of paint for the walls ( see above image ).
PINPOINTED
Meanwhile , Arif Hussein , owner , Terrapin Events Group , bought a great peg puller last year to cater for demand for its temporary structures . “ There are various designs coming down the pipe for products like this that everyone uses . There are many ways to skin lots of cats and finding out newer and cleverer ones is always exciting .
“ People are leaning towards smaller and more specific events . The larger ones are still thriving of course and they cater for their audiences well . For smaller suppliers , these are difficult events to crack because of buying power and the ability to discount at volume . If you run an event that caters to the specific needs of your specific audience , you can have a lot of success on a smaller scale and people will travel for something that they feel is more tailored to them .”.
