Primavera ’ s pilot concert without social distancing is successful
The promoter of 50,000-capacity Spanish festival Primavera Sound Barcelona said its test concert , without social distancing , has proven a success . Results of the pilot event in Barcelona on 12 December have shown that none of the event ’ s 463 attendees were infected with coronavirus .
The PRIMA-CoV clinical study was carried out at a concert at the Sala Apolo theatre ( cap . 1,608 ). The five-hour event involved four performances : two DJ sessions and two from live music acts . Singing and dancing was permitted throughout .
All participants were aged between 18 and 59 . Prior to the show they had been subject to a same-day antigen test . Mask wearing was mandatory during the entire event , except when drinking .
Organisers said room ventilation was optimised in the venue ’ s two rooms , and air flow was monitored . Measures were also implemented to avoid queues in and around the venue ’ s foyer and toilet facilities .
In a post-event questionnaire , event attendees said they enjoyed themselves and felt they had been able to behave normally .
The pilot event was carried out in partnership with the Foundation for the Fight against AIDS and Infectious Diseases and the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital .

Music industry campaigning and lobbying group UK Music has issued a report that provides Government with an action plan that could enable the live music sector to get back to business .
The organisation ’ s Let the Music Play : Save Our Summer 2021 report , sets out the economic , social and cultural value of live music , along with a blueprint for its revival . It is the backbone of a Save Our Summer 2021 campaign , with the hashtag # SaveOurSummer2021 . The key calls for action in the report are :
• An indicative date for a full capacity restart
• A Government-backed indemnity scheme
• Targeted financial support for the sector
• Extension to the VAT rate reduction on tickets
• Rollover of the paid 2020 Local Authority licence fees for festivals to 2021
• Extension to business rates relief UK Music CEO Jamie Njoku-Goodwin said , “ In this report , UK
Music is putting forward a clear plan for recovery : what we need to do to get the live performance sector back up on its feet again in 2021 . But the clock is ticking , and any day soon we could see major festivals and events start pulling the plug for lack of certainty .”
Crosstown Concerts launches concert streaming service
Concert promoter Crosstown Concerts made a successful first step into the concert streaming space , just two months after receiving £ 213,000 from the Government ’ s Cultural Recovery Fund . It is now creating a production hub in Australia to add to its UK and US-based production teams .
The company said its first online concert , featuring English folk act Bellowhead ( pictured ) on 5 December , sold 8,200 tickets . It followed that up with a streamed performance by Irish singer Damien Dempsey on 23 December , and tickets are on sale for Seth Lakeman on 27 February .
The Bellowhead show was streamed in partnership with Epping Forest-based broadcast platform Stabal . Crosstown said 70 % of ticket buyers selected the higher value option of a 30-day video-on-demand pass .
Crosstown Concerts was founded by Paul Hutton and Conal Dodds in 2016 after the duo left Metropolis Music . It has offices in Bristol and London . As well as promoting concerts its stages major outdoor events including the 60,000-capacity Downs Festival ( 60,000 ) in Bristol , Bristol Sounds ( 20,000 ) and OnBlackheath ( 25,000 ) in London .
