2020 may well be behind us , and good riddance to it , but with the challenges facing our industry far from over it is vital we look after one another ( P15 ) as we work toward brighter days .
As Access went to press , the frequency and urgency of our sector ’ s calls on Government ( P7 ) to provide an indemnity scheme , so that it can plan for the year ahead , had reached a peak but there were few signs of the calls being acted on .
Venue operators have demonstrated their ability to create Covid-safe environments for events ( P8 ), while technology ( P27 ) is being developed to aid mass Covid testing prior to full capacity shows . There have already been successful pilot events without social distancing ( P6 ), and more are planned .
Our sector has called for the formation of a taskforce to advise , evaluate and validate the various innovations it is looking to implement to enable the return of audiences at events . It has also offered to provide venues and expertise to help manage the vaccination roll out beyond the 1.3 million that had been vaccinated in the UK by early January .
There are plenty of substantial reasons for optimism , and the remarkable collective work across the industry has already seen many operators benefit from the Cultural Recovery Fund , but more needs to be done to protect our industry and an insurance scheme is top of the list .
