Access All Areas February 2020 | Page 44

FEBRUARY | REVIEW the lower working area when it was not. There were other logistical challenges for Brooks. “For the trader hut installation, we created a restricted area around the hut build and continually monitored to ensure that the public were not able to get within close proximity while heavy items were being installed. We made use of this cordon while lifting with forklifts as well as ensuring that the forks used at least two banksmen (four during busy periods) to guide through heavy pedestrian traffic. “For the delivery of all build items there were two main access points for articulated vehicles which enabled us to safely access and exit the site with minimal turning required. However, space was tight and required careful movement of barriers and banksmen to ensure public safety. 44 “The market huts and the Alpine Lodge required hundreds of metres of cabling and although power requirements were carefully planned to enable us to supply the correct amount of power to both the lodge and the traders, adverse weather conditions meant that we had to continually monitor cables and distro boards to ensure that the market was powered at all times. In previous years the event had emptied our toilet units weekly with waste trucks which meant some disruption for local traders. Working with the council this year Seventa was able to access a main sewer drain in the town centre and plumbed in the toilet waste directly. “With a lower waste disposal requirement, this meant that we made cost savings, less local trader disruption and lighter burden on the supplier,” says “From site access, to our VIP launch night, we had just nine days to ensure the site is up and running” Brooks. In the same way that Seventa focussed on using existing services, it also installed a BT line to ensure a robust Wi-Fi connection for the EPOS systems throughout the two-month open time. “Working with the local council we were able to access a hard line to connect our own cable. Monthly billing instead of a satellite connection means that we have costs savings as well as a reliable system for the duration of Christmas,” says Brooks.
