AFC CHALLENGES
Chef’ s note:
It is not about stacking, it is about creating contrast: soft against crispy, creamy against chewy. Do not bounce funds back and forth, transfer funds across borders, platforms and ownership types.
Step 3: Convert— To reduce into an unrecognizable base
Goal: Transform illicit funds to more mobile forms that are safer to store.
This is the reduction phase. The sauce simmers and thickens. The original ingredients become unrecognizable even to discerning connoisseurs. In today’ s tech world, criminals enjoy an abundance of digital ingredients that allow dirty money to get lighter and faster to transfer— and harder for LE to trace its bitter taste.
These ingredients include cryptocurrency, prepaid debit cards and gift cards. Gone are the days where the only conversion ingredient was currency to store and move without risky paper trails. Currency is bulky and becoming more suspicious to spend given that few in-store purchases in the U. S. are done in cash. Plus, currency will likely need to be placed back into banks to continue the money laundering process as further explained.
Chef’ s note:
Just like a chef would not throw fine ingredients into a rusty, secondhand blender, a savvy money launderer would not convert dirty money using shady platforms or unstable digital assets. Avoid unrelated or scammy crypto exchanges, meme coins, pump-and-dump tokens or poorly secured third-party wallets.
Step 4: Clean garnish well with legitimacy
Goal: Create a believable alibi / reasonable cover story.
This is the presentation and plating stage. The funds must return to the public eye, garnished as respectable income. Use front businesses that are cheap and easy to set up, requiring minimal paperwork and infrastructure but still give a maximum veneer of legitimacy. These include fake consulting firms, e-commerce storefronts and import-export businesses.
Create phony account ledgers, invoices, receipts and contracts to garnish the transfers into the front businesses. Readily available AI tools make this easier and more authentic-looking than ever before. Your plating needs flair to convince the pickiest financial food critics.
Chef’ s note:
The key technique here is patience. It is wise to let the stew simmer over time before placing the dirty money into the front businesses. Allow the money trails to cool down, create time distance from the crime. If the funds move too quickly after a known crime, investigators are better at following the breadcrumbs.
Step 5: Spend— But serve appropriate portions, avoid gluttony
Goal: Adhere to the Goldilocks principle— spend too little and you waste the effort of cleaning; spend too much and you alert investigators. The key is spending“ just right” for a lifestyle that does not draw too much attention.
A true top chef believes in portion control. The presentation is not just about the beauty of the plate; it is about balance, restraint and evoking a memorable culinary experience. Too much on the plate can overwhelm the diner both visually and physically. Too much big spending can alert LE.
Portion control means you do not engage in ostentatious spending like yachts, huge homes and Bugattis. You do not become a casino high roller. Financial gluttony raises suspicion. Restrain yourself from flexing your wealth to impress others.
Chef’ s note:
This is where most amateurs fail with too much on the plate. Living large for all the public to see was Al Capone’ s demise. And many have yet to learn from Capone’ s mistakes, but would rather follow in his footsteps.
