The detection , investigation and reporting effectiveness of CSAM / CSE / CST is further increased when using persona-based models as an alternative to current rule-based monitoring . A persona is a contextual representation of real-life behaviors that , when combined with available data , paints the full picture of CSAM / CSE / CST or any other crime . Within any given CSAM / CSE / CST business model , multiple roles often exist , such as trafficker , facilitator , offender and / or victim . And each role can have multiple personas .
Data and persona-based models on their own will incrementally provide an FI uplift in detecting and investigating CSAM / CSE /
CST activity . However , to avoid the “ needle in a haystack ” detection approach and increase efficiency / effectiveness , FIs need to move from simple monitoring rules with CSE / CSAM data supporting the investigation to a contextual persona-based monitoring and investigation approach that integrates CSE / CSAM data . This is done through entity resolution and network generation .
Through the deployment of entity resolution and network generation , a single view emerges identifying significant relationships and counterparties from CSE / CSAM data sets and the full breadth and depth of internal ( e . g ., customers , transactions , counterparties ) and external ( e . g ., negative news , watchlist ) data sources . Ultimately leading to a strengthened ability for FIs to identify and understand network connections , red flags , hidden risks and increase the efficiency / effectiveness of through contextual monitoring and investigations .
When done properly , combining all of the above approaches has proven to be the most effective CSE / CSAM / CST detection and investigation method . Graphics 3 and 4 are real-life examples of FIs taking this approach . ( Note : The legacy transaction monitoring system failed to identify the activity and networks .)
