TECH SCOPE
The crypto industry does not hinder law enforcement
Human history shows that civilization , at least at the beginning and for the majority , fears new technologies and oftentimes takes a skeptical and negative approach to innovation . Generally speaking , there is much fearmongering around us , coming from the media , politics and “ traditional ” businesses . This is even more accurate when it comes to the sensitive topic of “ money .” This is the case largely because we are not properly informed but rather persuaded , and we do not make an effort to investigate and assess available information .
Myths about hindering enforcement
A persistent myth is that privacy-enhancing tools ( PETs ) within the crypto industry serve to obstruct law enforcement ( LE ). While PETs , such as mixers and privacy coins , aim to protect user anonymity , they do not inherently prevent LE from conducting investigations . In fact , using these tools often draws attention to suspicious activities , triggering new investigative leads . With the cooperation of crypto exchanges , wallet providers and other stakeholders , LE can often trace illicit activity despite the use of privacy tools . PETs may complicate but do not block the efforts of forensic investigators .
