CAMS Graduates
A
s 2008 draws to a close, we face a
global economic crisis that led the
United States government to pass the
bailout bill for troubled financial institutions. As the government bails out financial
institutions, many of us are asking ourselves,
“Who’s bailing us out?” At the beginning of
this year, who would’ve thought that this
would become one of the most popular questions for 2008?
At a time of economic uncertainty, antimoney laundering (AML) professionals can
answer this question and help not only financial institutions, but
individuals as well by turning their attention to fraud. Compliance
departments—now more than ever—have become essential in assisting financial institutions with operational risk. Best practices that
make up a successful compliance department need to be shared
across the board.
The good news is that despite troubled times, CAMS-certified professionals earned 14 percent more than noncertified professionals,
according to the 2008 AML/CFT Compensation Survey. Highlights of
the salary survey can be found in this issue of ACAMS Today.
Also, in this final edition of ACAMS Today for 2008, we cover an
array of informative topics:
• Money laundering and intellectual property: Find out what these
two crimes have in common.
• Keeping one step ahead of the criminal requires ongoing training
for appropriate employees. Learn how to customize your training
to fit your needs and remember when it comes to training one size
does not fit all.
• Discover what effects a borderless Europe has had on the implementation of the Third EU Directive in Romania.
• Learn how to drive efficiency in SAR reporting by implementing
and establishing SAR templates.
Finally, if you’re interested in deepening your knowledge and earning continuing education credits, don’t forget to register for upcoming
ACAMS Web seminars by filling out the registration form in the back
of this issue.
