How Can a Skillshop Improve Your Path to Success ?

In the Academic Support unit of the SSC , we created Educational Skillshops that offer a programming approach to learning from a holistic standpoint . I think we all know the nature of workshops ; they typically involve a speaker and a PowerPoint or Prezi and require you to sit in a room and listen to the speaker give out information . In the Student Success Center , we developed a new spin on the traditional workshop . We like to call our sessions “ Educational Skillshops .” You might ask “ What is the difference ?” Well , we are glad you asked !
Educational Skillshops are different from traditional workshops because they combine life and academic skills . There are two options when it comes to Educational Skillshops : 1 ) Academic Success and 2 ) Campus Connections . Academic Success Skillshops help students learn skills such as time-management , goal setting and effective study habits . Campus Connections Skillshops are presented by professionals from various offices around campus and offer a variety of life strategies such as financial literacy , media literacy and counseling .
All Educational Skillshops are designed with student engagement in mind . We aim to transform passive learning into a fun and interactive experience . Every Skillshop infuses interactive activities to reinforce concepts and life skills . We offer four to six Skillshops on a weekly basis from Week 2 to Week 10 . Each quarter , all Skillshops are listed on the Engage website .
