Annamarie Cetinski , our “ Academic Support Student Spotlight ,” responded to the Academic Support Team ’ s questions regarding experiences with the SSC and Academic Support services .
HOW HAS USING THE SSC SERVICES IMPACTED YOUR EDUCATIONAL CAREER ?
Using the SSC services as a student has allowed me to excel in my classes . I found attending SI sessions for difficult classes made the material much easier to grasp , especially because you are getting the information presented in a different way , and the SI leaders are students who can give you practical tips about how to best learn the material and prepare for the class .
Using the SSC services as an SI leader , I feel that I have been able to develop my leadership and public speaking . Both skills will help me in school and especially post-graduation .
HOW WOULD YOU ENCOURAGE OTHER STUDENTS TO USE SSC SERVICES ?
I would encourage other students to look at all the SSC has to offer and utilize whatever they feel will be most beneficial to them . Not only are there SI / Tutoring programs that can help students excel in class , but also mentoring programs , Skillshops and many other resources .
WHAT SSC RESOURCES WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TO YOUR PEERS ?
I would recommend that my peers utilize the SI program . The SI leaders are other students who have succeeded in the class previously and have so many tips to share . It can be difficult to organize and process all the information a class throws at you , and sometimes it is helpful to have support in reviewing the material , getting clarity on questions and listening to what your peers are also asking !
WHAT SSC ADVICE WOULD YOU PROVIDE TO A NEW STUDENT ?
I would advise a new student not to be afraid to ask for help ! The SSC is the perfect place to get help because they offer so many resources or can certainly point you in the right direction for who to talk to . Every student has a different experience and different needs , so do not be afraid to ask for help and get support .
