This course aims to help students develop the knowledge and skills they need to make informed choices for their education, career and life outside of school. The complexity and fluidity of the modern workplace demands graduates who are able to navigate and build their own career paths while adapting to continual change. Through Career Education, students will understand how to effectively explore opportunities which guide their life journey toward several possible preferred futures. Furthermore, they will learn relevant planning, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, as well as core communication, thinking, and personal and social competencies.
The Big Ideas explored in this course are:
• Career-life choices are made in a recurring cycle of planning, reflecting, adapting, and deciding
• Career-life decisions are influenced by internal and external factors, including local and global trends
• Cultivating networks and reciprocal relationships can support and broaden career-life awareness options
• Finding a balance between work and personal life promotes well-being
• Lifelong learning fosters career-life opportunities
This course aims to help students develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes, which will assist them in making informed decisions as they plan future education and career paths. In Career Education 9, students will begin to explore the concepts of first impressions, begin to discover their skills, interests, motivations, personality and learning styles and then begin exploring careers. They will also begin to discover key concepts in workplace safety and understand the importance of their digital footprint.
