Career Education & Work Experience

In the Career Education program, students participate in a wide range of activities to better understand themselves, their purpose and passion, and the contribution they can make in the working world. Students develop an understanding of volunteerism, community contributions, and work experience, and how these meaningful and rewarding opportunities can help them direct their future career paths and what those pathways may entail. In addition, students are encouraged to explore their skillset and develop transferable skills that relate to a wide variety of occupations.
Labour market analysis and career explorations are an integral part of Career Education, leading students to take a detailed look at what the job market demands. In tandem, students are encouraged to develop their curiosity through mentorship opportunities and informational interviews to determine a clear and realistic view of what a given job might entail. Job readiness is supported through resume and cover letter development, interview preparation, as well as digital portfolios which lead to LinkedIn profiles that highlight key work and education accomplishments. Workplace safety and rights, financial literacy, budgeting and balance are all key components which students explore to give them a holistic and realistic picture of life as a working citizen. continue to guide them beyond secondary school. Through Career Education, students develop the skill set and toolkit necessary to adapt to the ever-changing job market, and to prepare them for integration and success in the modern collaborative workplace.
