Computer Studies 10 is an exploration into today’ s technology-driven world: chatbots, computer vision, recommendation systems, virtual reality, internet and big data. Students will further develop media and computer literacy through a variety of hands-on projects using multiple programming languages, software tools and hardware devices. This course requires problem-solving and independent learning skills. It is recommended for AP Computer Science A.

Web Development 10 introduces fundamental principles and techniques to design and develop effective web experiences. Students critically analyze and evaluate the latest web trends and mobile experiences. This hands-on course progresses from introductory work on web design, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to a culminating project in which students integrate dynamic features such as responsive design, cloud-based platforms, payment gateways, real-time databases, social media integration and user analytics. Students will discuss ethical best practices, web standards, copyright, creative commons and fair use protocols for media and content.

Digital Media Development 12 students take on a variety of roles including roles within the design field. Using the design thinking process, students will build a portfolio that includes packaging, branding, and print media projects. The course will explore theoretical and practical skills to turn creative ideas into reality, such as colour theory, typography and software used in industry. Students will present their creations and provide constructive peer feedback. This course may be taken in Grade 11 or 12. Assessment is based on assignments and presentations.
