Arts and Applied Design, Skills & Technologies

Arts and Applied Design, Skills & Technologies( AADST) at Crofton House School, includes B. C. Ministry of Education courses from the following curricular areas: fine and performing arts, business education, home economics and culinary arts, information and communications technology, and technology education. While the programing is diverse, collectively AADST courses all provide opportunities for students to explore and hone their artistic and technical skills through inquiry, experimentation and persistence. These learning processes build self-awareness and critical thinking while strengthening highly valued competencies such as communication, collaboration, creativity and innovation. The BC curriculum requires all Grade 8 and 9 students to take the equivalent of one full year of Applied Design, Skills and Technologies courses. To create balance in a student’ s course load, Crofton House recommends that students diversify their course options by also choosing an Arts course. In Grades 10 to 12, students are encouraged to pursue their interests and passions through a range of elective subjects including AP courses. There are opportunities for accelerated learning in every program for those students interested in potentially pursuing the arts and applied skills.
