AP Physics 2 explores the topics of fluids, thermodynamics, electrostatics, electrical circuits with capacitors, electromagnetism, optics, and modern physics. Students will further develop their scientific investigation skills, learning, for example, how to analyse, qualitatively and quantitatively, data related to a variety of physics concepts and principles. This course is highly analytical and prepares students for the AP Physics 2 examination offered by the College Board. Students must be adept at algebraic and numerical problem solving. Students will demonstrate their understanding of different standards through a variety of assessments. They will be given multiple opportunities to show progress for each standard.

How do students know what are the best courses to take in science in Grades 11 and 12?
Students need to research the recommended prerequisites for the specific program and postsecondary of interest. Course selections should reflect interests and abilities in those subjects. Students should consult with your science teacher, Department Head of Science, or Student Services if necessary.
Should students take three science courses?
Few post-secondary programs require all three sciences; however, students need to research the recommended prerequisites for the specific program and post-secondary institution of interest. Excessive courses in one area of study is not recommended as it may appear unbalanced on a transcript. A diverse education is an important consideration when selecting courses.
Should students take AP Biology, Chemistry, and / or Physics 1 / 2 courses?
Success in AP Science courses requires students to be confident and skilled in the appropriate prerequisites such as Mathematics. Through taking an AP Science course students will cover a wider breadth of content. Some post-secondary institutions accept the AP course in lieu of the Grade 12 course; however, students should confirm specific program and post-secondary institution admission requirements. When do students start to specialize in different areas of science?

In Science 8, 9, and 10, students will cover biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science. During course selections in grade 10, students will be able to select biology, chemistry, physics, and / or environment science for grades 11 and 12. The Science 10 and senior science teachers will explain the different options to the students before course selections are completed.
