Mathematics 8 focuses on the Big Ideas of number representation, computational fluency, representation of linear relationships, spatial relationships, and data analysis. These Big Ideas and the content areas are connected through the competencies of reasoning, understanding, communicating, and connecting; in addition, students’ mathematical habits of mind are strengthened through these competencies. Topics include squares, square roots, percents, ratios, fractions, linear relations, algebraic expressions and equations, surface area, volume, the Pythagorean Theorem, constructions, central tendencies, theoretical probability, financial literacy, and extensions.
