Activity: Selecting and Modifying Courses
Release of the 2026-2027 CHS Academic Handbook: This online guide informs students and parents / guardians about academic procedures and course selection opportunities.
Course Selection Guidance in class During classes, students will have the opportunity to hear from each teacher about the courses offered in the upcoming school year.( Semester 1 teachers will speak with students prior to January 29, 2026). Students should reflect on their interests and should speak with parents / guardians, older students and teachers to carefully and thoughtfully consider course selections. Grades 8 and 9 students will meet with their Career Education teachers to discuss their course options and fill out their course planning sheet. Grade 10 and 11 students will be guided by Post-Secondary Counsellors in scheduled individual or family meetings.
SS Course Selection & Information Evening: An evening to learn about the courses offered for the upcoming school year.( Current Grade 8- 11 students and parents / guardians welcome.)
Course Information For Grade 7 Families: The school will directly communicate with current CHS Grade 7 students and parents / guardians as well as new families to solicit course choices for Grade 8.
Inputting Course Choices: Advisory time is given for students to input their course selections into MySchool. Students are expected to bring a completed and signed course selection form. All selections must be made by Wednesday February 18, 2026.
Master Timetable Construction and Staffing: Throughout this time, all student requests are consolidated and a‘ master’ timetable is constructed. This timetable takes into account all requests as well as staff and space requirements. Students may request changes to earlier requests; however, during this time, the school will be unable to confirm the request will be accommodated.
Application to Challenge a Course: Students wishing to challenge a Grade 10-12 level course to receive credit undocumented demonstrated prior learning. Students are entitled to use the‘ challenge’ process to receive credit for Ministry-Developed courses for Grades 10, 11 or 12. To do so they must submit an application by this date.
