What is a Capstone project ?
The Capstone Project is a year-long self-driven project that is career-oriented , passion-fuelled and ambitious yet achievable . This project is completed in Career-Life Connections 12 , which is a scheduled course , interspersed with study blocks . The Capstone has an appropriately structured introductory period to allow for focus on PSI applications in conjunction with Career Education & Post-Secondary Counselling team at the onset of the school year .
What is the Work Experience Program ( WEP ) and how does my child get involved ?
The Work Experience Program runs three times annually : Winter , Spring , and Summer . Traditionally , students participate in a 20-hour experience , which can be completed over one week or spread across multiple weeks during their holiday break , depending on employer availability . Placements may be in-person , virtual , or a hybrid format , providing flexibility to suit various career interests and individual circumstances .
Applications for the program typically open in September and close in early October . After the application deadline , students will have the opportunity to write a short WorkSafeBC assessment to obtain a Safety Certificate . Selected students will then be sorted into an intake of their choosing — Winter , Spring , or Summer .
CHS provides opportunities across various fields and will share a list of potential employers who have supported the program in the past . If students feel these options do not align with their specific interests , they are encouraged to explore and secure a placement on their own . The Manager of Work Integrated Learning will provide support with WorkSafeBC requirements , onboard employers , and guide students through other necessary steps to ensure a successful experience . While placements are not guaranteed , the skills and experiences developed through this program are invaluable .
