Decisions about a change in placement or additional entry point are considered in exceptional circumstances early in the school year with the permission of the Department Head and with teacher recommendations .
Students who have experience with the language and would like to take Spanish must write a challenge exam in the spring of their Grade 8 year to be placed in the appropriate Spanish level in their Grade 9 year .

Throughout the course , students will gain insight into the daily lives of Spanish-speaking adolescents in New York and Miami , learn about the educational system in Mexico , explore the dietary customs of Puerto Rican families , and examine the shopping habits of Spanish teenagers .
