What should students know about the Challenge Process for Literary Studies 11 ?
By successfully challenging Literary Studies 11 , a student will have the option of taking a combination of English Studies 12 / English First Peoples 12 and an AP English course . Should students choose to pursue this more advanced course of study , there are a number of factors they must take into consideration :
• English Studies 12 / English First Peoples 12 are graduation requirements and cannot be challenged .
• Students must take an English course in every year that they are in the senior secondary school .
• Challenge requirements are set out by the Ministry of Education and Crofton House School must align our practice with the requirements .
• CHS has set the learning standards of Literary Studies 11 as the most effective preparation for English Studies 12 / English First Peoples 12 . For this reason , CHS will not consider a successful challenge of either Composition 11 or Creative Writing 11 as a prerequisite for English Studies 12 / English First Peoples 12 .
• A student must indicate at the time of course selection in her Grade 10 year her intention to challenge Literary Studies 11 at the end of the year . Students still select Literary Studies 11 during the course selection process . When a student successfully challenges Literary Studies 11 , the Post Secondary Counsellor will update the course selection .
• CHS recommends students achieve a proficient standing on the challenge assessment in order to be prepared for the rigour and pace of a Grade 12 English course .
• The grade earned through the challenge process is recorded on the student ’ s transcript along with a “ C ” indicating the Grade was earned through a challenge process .
