• Spanish 10 ( 9 accelerated ), 11 ( 10 accelerated ) , Spanish 12 ( 11 accelerated ) and AP Spanish courses are part of an intensive program for students with an advanced Spanish background or a strong Spanish linguistic and cultural proficiency . These students move through the curriculum at an accelerated pace and will normally complete the Grade 12 program in their Grade 11 year . In Grade 12 , students in the advanced program are welcome to join the AP Spanish class .
Decisions about a change in placement or additional entry point are considered in exceptional circumstances early in the school year with the permission of the Department Head and with teacher recommendations .

Spanish 8 is designed for students both with and without previous experience with Spanish and who are enthusiastic about exploring the Hispanic language and culture . The outcomes for the learners may differ based on their previous experiences with Spanish . Students who have limited or nonexistent experience with the culture and no knowledge of vocabulary and basic Spanish grammar should be able to interact with others using memorized vocabulary and displaying basic cultural knowledge by the end of the course . Students who have been exposed to the Spanish language or have been taking Spanish classes in the past will be able to write a challenge test leading towards AP Spanish Language and Culture . Assessment in both paths include interpretive , interpersonal , and presentational modes of communication . Each mode addresses how students speak , write , listen , view and use media .

Spanish 9 is a novice - low course where students will delve into foundational vocabulary , essential grammar structures , and verbs in the present tense . Throughout this course , students will learn common words and phrases , using simple sentences to grasp the basics of the language . They will acquire high-frequency vocabulary , along with grammatical structures and present tense verbs . Additionally , students will be exposed to the cultural context and celebrations of Latin American countries . They ’ ll explore themes such as self-description , introducing family and friends , and notable figures . Through comparisons , students will gain insight into the cultural contexts of life in other countries while mastering the language . Assessment will be standards-based and encompass reading , listening , written exchanges , writing , speaking , communication in writing , and making cultural connections .
