Framework of a Student Timetable
The 2022-2023 Academic Handbook describes all courses that are being offered to students in Grades 8 - 12 . The range of courses and the course selection process has been designed to facilitate thoughtful and well-informed decisions by students and to guide consideration in planning for future years .

This section of the handbook describes the framework of a student ’ s timetable . Students and parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with this information prior to moving into selecting courses . There are a number of elements to consider and all efforts have been made to ensure students and parents have the information needed to make wise decisions for the next school year and into the future .
A Crofton House School Timetable
The Crofton House School timetable is based upon an “ 8-day tumbling ” structure . Classes are timetabled into 8 blocks , “ A ” through “ H ”. Senior music classes take place outside of the timetable in “ M ” block .

With the exception of Grade 12 students who may choose to have one ‘ study ’ block , all students select courses for each of the 8 blocks of the CHS timetable . Some courses are required by the BC Ministry of Education while others are electives . Reflective of the Crofton House School mission , Inspiring girls to discover and pursue their personal excellence , elective courses in the pre-graduation years , Grades 8 and 9 , are intended to provide students with opportunities to “ discover ” potentially new areas of interest . In the graduation years , Grades 10 to 12 , electives provide students with opportunities to “ pursue ” areas of interest . The number of required and elective courses vary depending on student grade and , in the graduation years , on progress through the requirements of the BC Graduation Program .
CHS students are expected to carry a full 8-course load with the exception of approved ‘ study ’ blocks , Independent Study or Learning Strategies blocks . Ministry of Education grants are based upon students being in attendance a defined number of hours . Students who carry less than a full load may be subject to a fee in order for the school to offset the loss of Ministry of Education eligible student grant funds .
Requesting Courses
At the start of the second semester , students , with the guidance of teachers , older students and parents , select courses for the next academic year . The full schedule of the process from exploration to course selection and timetable finalization is listed in this handbook .
Construction of the school-wide timetable takes into account all student requests , available staffing , and classroom availability . As much as possible , timetable conflicts are minimized toward the goal of fulfilling as many student
