Career Education & Work Experience

In the Career Education program , students participate in a wide range of activities to better understand themselves , their purpose and passion , and the contribution they can make in the working world . Students begin with the goal-setting process , learning how to apply short and long term strategies to more complex goals over time . They develop an understanding of volunteerism , community contributions , and work experience , and how these meaningful and rewarding opportunities can help them direct their future career paths . In addition , students are encouraged to explore their skillset and develop transferable skills that relate to a wide variety of occupations .
Labour market analysis and career explorations are an integral part of Career Education , leading students to take a detailed look at what the job market demands . In tandem , students are encouraged to develop their curiosity through mentorship opportunities and informational interviews to determine a clear and realistic view of what a given job might entail . Job readiness is supported through resume and cover letter development , as well as digital portfolios which lead to LinkedIn profiles that highlight key work and education accomplishments . Workplace safety and rights , financial literacy , budgeting and balance are all key components which students explore to give them a holistic and realistic picture of life as a working citizen .

Through the Professional Speaker Mentorship Series , students put themselves in contact with professionals in the community who may continue to guide them beyond secondary school . Through Career Education , students develop the skill set and toolkit necessary to adapt to the everchanging job market , and to prepare them for integration and success in the modern collaborative workplace .
