Outdoor Education 8 is an off-campus excursion that safely introduces students to a variety of outdoor pursuits through experiential learning . Personal leadership is explored and extends to include leadership within a group , fostering positive student relationships , strong communities , and a sense of belonging . Group activities include mountain biking , rock climbing , ropes courses , hiking , and a one-night camping experience where students learn basic backcountry skills . Adhering to the philosophy of ‘ challenge by choice ’, students are empowered to choose to participate in the activities for a personalized level of engagement . Observational assessment considers a participating student ’ s level of engagement and will be provided by the student ’ s supervising teacher .

Outdoor Education 9 is an off-campus excursion that builds on the variety of outdoor pursuits introduced through the Grade 8 Outdoor Education program . Students continue to explore personal leadership , group leadership , and environmental stewardship supporting student understanding of their role within successful communities . Group activities include ropes courses , hiking , canoeing , rock climbing , kayaking , ziplining , and a one-night canoeing experience where students continue to practice backcountry skills . Adhering to the philosophy of ‘ challenge by choice ’, students are empowered to choose to participate in the activities for a personalized level of engagement . Observational assessment considers a participating student ’ s level of engagement and will be provided by the student ’ s supervising teacher .

Outdoor Education 10 is an off-campus excursion that provides students the opportunity to explore their passions and personalize their learning in the outdoors . Students are asked to select a program stream ( The Arts , Farm and Forage , Wilderness Pursuits ) that aligns with their passions and interests and supports the notion that there are a multitude of ways to connect with the natural environment . The trip will provide students the opportunity to engage in outdoor pursuits such as canoeing , kayaking , and hiking .

Outdoor Education 11 is an off-campus excursion that provides students an opportunity to participate in workshops that explore concepts of leadership , including exploration of personal leadership style , strategies for effective collaboration , leadership for action and design-thinking for social innovation . Workshops are facilitated by trained Grade 12 student leaders and prepare Grade 11 students for their role as community leaders . Additionally , two off-site trip days will safely introduce students to winter outdoor pursuits such as snowshoeing , downhill skiing , snowboarding and dog sledding .
