Social Studies

Social Studies students at Crofton House develop their understanding of the world around them , both past and present , as they explore and examine their social , political , economic and geographic surroundings . In addition , students develop a sense of responsibility for becoming informed and active citizens of their community , and the greater , global community . Course offerings in the department are designed to provide students with a solid foundation of knowledge , skills and understanding . Curricular competencies are introduced and developed throughout the program to prepare students for higher-level studies in the humanities . At the senior level , courses allow students to pursue more specific areas of interest .

Social Studies courses are part of a student ’ s required academic course work in Grades 8 through 10 . In addition , the Ministry of Education requires that students complete an additional Social Studies 11 or 12 course in order to meet the provincial graduation requirements . In their senior years , students can choose from : Explorations in Social Studies 11 : Seminar , 20th Century World History 12 , Law Studies 12 , Comparative Cultures 12 , Economic Theory 12 , Social Justice 12 , AP Human Geography , and AP World History .
