Science 8
Prerequisite Science 7
Course Credit Course Duration Delivery Method
N / A Full year Classroom-based , using a variety of inquiry-based strategies
Throughout the Science 8 course , students will develop their science competencies as they engage in inquirybased learning . Students will develop these competencies through the lens of “ A Sense of Place ” applied to the following concepts : life processes take place at the cellular level , the behaviour of matter can be explained using the atomic theory and the kinetic molecular theory , energy is both a particle and a wave , and the theory of plate tectonics can be used to explain geological processes .
Science 9
Prerequisite Science 8 Course Credit Course Duration Delivery Method
N / A Full year Classroom-based , using a variety of inquiry-based strategies
Throughout the Science 9 course , students will further develop their science competencies as they engage in inquiry-based learning . Students will develop these competencies through the lens of sustainability applied to the following concepts : cells arise from other cells ; the electron arrangement of atoms impacts chemical behaviour ; electric current is the flow of electric charge ; and the earth ’ s spheres are interconnected as matter and energy flow through them ..
Science 10
Prerequisite Science 9 Course Credit Course Duration Delivery Method
4 credits Full year Classroom-based , using a variety of inquiry-based strategies
Science 10 students will further develop their science competencies as they engage in inquiry-based learning . The students will develop these competencies through the lens of “ A Sense of Place ” applied to the following concepts :: genes are the foundations for the diversity of living things ; chemical processes require energy as atoms are rearranged ; energy is conserved and its transformation can affect living things and the environment ; the formation of the universe can be explained using the Big Bang theory .
Anatomy and Physiology 12
Prerequisite Science 10 Chemistry 11 ( may be taken concurrently ) Course Credit 4 credits Course Duration Full year Delivery Method Classroom-based , using a variety of inquiry-based strategies
Throughout the Anatomy and Physiology 12 course , students will further develop communication , analytical and evaluation skills as they engage in the scientific process . Students will study cell and human physiology and their application to human disease . Students will demonstrate their understanding of different standards through a variety of assessments . They will be given multiple opportunities to show progress for each standard .
