elcome to our third issue of the spring Academic Affairs e-newsletter. This newsletter is designed to let the campus know the many and the exciting things happening in Academic Affairs about students and faculty.

Congratulations goes to CSUDH Biology Student Ashley Potter who won second place at the CSU State Research Competition! The CSU System wide competition was held on May 1st and 2nd at Cal State San Bernardino. We are extremely proud of the thirteen CSUDH students who competed and their wonderful faculty mentors!

The CSUDH Active Learning Classrooms initiative is enthusiastically proceeding as part of the 2014-2020 University Strategic Plan to develop student-centered, high-touch technology learning environments. Two classrooms in Welch Hall are expected to be completed by the start of fall 2015 offering students a highly engaged active learning environment.

The First-Year Seminar (FYS) Program pilot as part of the student success initiative is underway. Faculty are invited to propose their “dream” first-year seminar that integrates the UNV 101 course framework with an exciting discipline-specific topic of the faculty member’s own design. Faculty interested in participating in the FYS Program in spring 2016 will have an opportunity to apply in the fall 2015 term.

We have so many things to celebrate! This newsletter will be our opportunity to highlight accomplishments, address campus topics, and invite feedback from our diverse vibrant community.

With warmest wishes,

Ellen Junn, Provost
