AFFORDABLE LEARNING SOLUTIONS

Lilian Quach, Freshman, Digital Media Arts Major recommends to students and faculty about having online resources available, “I would recommend to use these resources regularly because it does help students in other areas as well. It does help in English. If you are trying to talk about a certain subject, you can look up articles on the databases the Library uses as well. So that helps you get to your main point.”

The Library has subscriptions of new databases.

These databases can be found in the Library’s Journal Databases by Title

Criminal Justice Abstracts with Full Text provides indexing for criminal justice and criminology and is useful for many other disciplines, including psychology, sociology and social work. There is indexing to 520 journals with full-text available for 320 journals and magazines as well as links to articles in the numerous other databases held by CSUDH.

PsycTESTS is a collection of psychological measures, scales, surveys, and other instruments essential to the research needs across the behavioral and social sciences. Bibliographic records include summaries of the tests and information on their development and administration. Over 75% of the records contain the test or test items.

Mr. Ramser’s English 108 class shared, “I like that there's a lot of information that we can use for our essays and projects. Sometimes when I searched for topics I would use Google, but now she [Veronica D'Aquino, Reference Librarian] has taught us how it will be easier to find valuable resources that are from professionals and more scholarly articles.”

CSUDH is the beta campus selected by the CSU to use and evaluate e-books in Business Expert Press (BEP). BEP books were designed to be curriculum – oriented. They are concise and include “real-life” business solutions. These books were given to CSUDH to expand our Affordable Learning Solutions initiative. This database was purchased for the UC system, and the CSU wants it tested for use for the CSUs. If you are using all or portions of these e-books for your classes, contact Naomi Moy to let her know which books you are using so she may provide the CSU with an evaluation of your experiences.
