ACTIVE LEARNING CLASSROOMS

16

"There is interaction with other students, I like the fact that I am able to view a diverse of opinions given the fact that not all individuals think the same way. Working with a diversity helps because it is something that is going to be essential everywhere I go. The interaction and collaboration make the class more fun and exciting." - Alejandra Pena. CSUDH Student, Dr. Thomas Norman - Management Theory

What I like the most is how the traditional classroom is nonexistent for this class."

"It has allowed me to better get out of my shell and share my ideas freely. I am indeed learning newer ideas as i communicate with those around me." Carlos Jimenez, CSUDH Student, Dr. Erin Merz - Health Psychology

Yes i interact and collaborate more with other students. I like it because when you talk to a friend about the information you're learning, you retain the information more than just listening to the professor lecture. Sometimes they explain the material better because it gets simplified and just easier to understand. So, I would say it makes learning easier and FUN! Myra Munoz, CSUDH Student,

How are you blending lecture with active, student-centered teaching methods?

I combine lecture with various activities where students apply the concepts to novel stimuli. Although the specific activities vary based on the topic, I typically do short bouts of describing a concept, a short discussion, and then a short application activity. I repeat this cycle multiple times within a class period.
